Gavin O’Reilly, Independent News & Media PLC

Gavin O’Reilly is Group Chief Executive Officer of Independent News & Media PLC, the leading international media and communications group, which publishes over 200 individual newspaper and magazine titles – in addition to its 100+ online sites - in its main markets of Australia, India, Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. The combined weekly audience of INM titles exceeds 100 million consumers.

 

Mr. O’Reilly also serves as President of the World Association of Newspapers – the industry representative body for the $200 billion global newspaper industry.

 

Mr. O’Reilly is Chairman of APN News & Media Limited (Australia) and also Chairman of Dromoland Castle Holdings Limited. He serves as a director for Norkom Technologies PLC, TVC PLC, Jagran Prakashan Ltd. (India), PT Abdi Bangsa (Indonesia), and is a director of the Ireland Funds amongst other charities.

 

Richard Withey, Independent News & Media Plc

Richard Withey recently stepped down as Global Director – interactive media for Independent News & Media PLC, a position he held since May 2002. He joined INM to set up Independent Digital, the digital publishing arm of Independent News & Media, in June 1999. This followed 12 years at News International, where for 7 years he was Director of new media, formulating the overall strategy for the successful launch on the Web of titles such as The Times, Sunday Times and The Times Educational Supplements, as well as investing directly or through joint ventures in a number of new media start-ups and publishing ventures, including LineOne, News Multimedia and NewsEyeQ.

 

Until recently he was chairman of the Newspaper Licensing Agency, a visiting professor of media information at City University and a member of the advisory group for the British Newspaper Library. Richard holds an honorary fellowship at University College London, where he also a Director of CIBER, a group researching digital consumer behavior, and a member of the management board of the UCL Centre for Publishing.

 

David Israel, UniQuest

David Israel is UniQuest’s Group Manager of Commercialization focusing on UniQuest’s external IP catchments. He has a diverse background across higher education, business and technology. During the late 1980s David was involved in managing major institutional strategic change in the higher education sector, helping drive efficiencies from organizational restructuring and changes to the management and governance of universities. He then worked in commercialization and internationalization of education as Director of Continuing Education at the University of Adelaide. His most recent commercialization successes include establishment of a number of startup companies including, ActiveTorque Pty Ltd and Ausonex Pty Ltd. David has been with UniQuest since 2001 and is a member of the company’s senior executive team.

 

 

 

Craig Peden, University of Wollongong

Craig is the Manager of Innovation and Commercialization for the University of Wollongong currently focused on the faculties of Education, Informatics and Creative Arts. His role involves assessing, preserving and commercializing the Intellectual Capital of the University of Wollongong and seeking the most desirable commercial outcome for the growing portfolio. Previous to his recent appointment, Craig managed the Higher Education business unit of Microsoft where he worked for 3 years and previous to that was Asia Pacific Product Strategy Manager - Learning Solutions with US software company PeopleSoft (now Oracle).
